Fusion

Fusion, a new idea brought to the Marvel: Ultimate Alliance universe by Vicarious Visions, is one of the most important features of MUA2. Fusion lets you combine the powers of multiple heroes into one uber-heroic super move. The result might be a targeted attack, or perhaps a player-controlled wrecking ball, or maybe a room-clearing blast. Experimenting with hero combinations and choosing the right Fusion for the right job is half the fun. With 26 playable characters on the Wii, the team at n-Space had over 300 different Fusion combinations to create – a daunting task for an awesome new feature.

Now that Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 has been released for the Wii and PS2, the development team at n-Space would love to tell you more about it, offering an inside glimpse into its development and to let the fans see what makes us so proud of this great game. We’ll be posting a series of articles like this through the end of this week and into next, so check back each day to see what’s new!

When creating the Wii version of the game, we wanted Fusion to be integrated into the Wii experience, drawing on the strengths of the platform and its unique controls. On the Wii, if you want to perform a power Fusion move, you initiate it by shaking the Nunchuk.  This sets off a timed event where the player has a window of opportunity to select the hero they wish to fuse with using the pointer. The selection can be made on the character model itself or the portraits located near the corners of the screen.

Each Fusion in the game has a certain name attached to it, which the player sees a preview of as soon as the cursor crosses its target, making it easier to determine which Fusion you’re about to kick off.  As the Fusion is occurring, the player is given direct feedback over how much damage is being inflicted on the enemy.  Once you’ve finished a Fusion, you get a big payoff graphic showing the overall effectiveness of the move, breaking down the total level of damage and the number of enemies taken out of commission.

Conclusion

We put so much effort into making this game a fun and exclusive experience for Wii Marvel fans that we hope you will recognize the improvements over the first game and judge it on its own merits. n-Space, Activision, and Marvel are all very proud of the game we’ve made. Marvel gave us a lot of positive commentary throughout development, calling it a, “worthy sequel to the original MUA.”

We had an absolute blast creating this game over the last year and a half and we truly hope that you have fun playing it!  Follow us on Facebook or Twitter for more info and hit us up with your comments and questions!

-Frequently Asked Questions

For our game, we wanted to give gamers as much control over power Fusion moves as possible.  The Wii pointer gave us a great advantage, particularly when it comes to the targeted Fusions where the player can quickly and accurately pick the exact spot they want the Fusion to hone in on. Whether it’s controlling the flaming tornado, driving the powerful billiard ball, or directing the fiery clothesline, players will love having absolute control over Fusions!
